# Draft interview questions: scoring guide

Turn a job description into one set of job-related interview questions that every candidate gets, each tied to a duty, with what a good answer includes and a check that no question touches a protected topic.

## How to use it

1. Run the template on your own material, or take an answer you already have.
2. For each criterion below, read the answer against the two lines and tick one: meets or does not meet. Quote what you saw.
3. A criterion marked "checked by you" is yours to mark. An AI cannot meet it for you.
4. Count the ticks for meets, out of 11. Fix the first criterion that is not met and run the guide again.

## The guide

### 1. Every item is quoted word for word from the job description

A plain rule you can check by eye.

- Meets: Every item in the table is found word for word in the job description.
- Does not meet: An item has been reworded or added, such as a quality like team player that the text does not say.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 2. Each type is one of the three allowed words

A plain rule you can check by eye.

- Meets: Every row has past experience, work sample or situation in the Type column.
- Does not meet: A row has another word, or the Type cell is empty.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet

- Does not meet: The line is missing, or it has been replaced by a claim that the guide is legally safe.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 5. Every question has its good answer points filled in

A plain rule you can check by eye.

- Does not meet: A question or its good answer points are blank, or hold only a dash.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 6. Every question is tied to words in the job description

A plain rule you can check by eye.

- Meets: Each duty quoted in the screen is found in the job description, word for word.
- Does not meet: A quoted duty is not in the job description, so the question may test something the job does not need.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 7. The number of questions matches what was asked for

Checked by a second AI prompt.

- Meets: The number of questions matches the number asked for, or is fewer because the list is shorter.
- Does not meet: There are more or fewer questions than asked for, without that reason.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 8. No question in the guide touches a protected topic

Checked by a second AI prompt.

- Meets: No question in the guide asks about, or invites talk of, a protected topic or an assumed background.
- Does not meet: A question asks about age, family, health, origin or similar, or assumes a certain school, employer or life.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 9. The guide asks every candidate the same questions in the same way

Checked by a second AI prompt.

- Meets: The guide asks every candidate the same questions with the same follow-ups, and each question has its Tests and Good answer lines.
- Does not meet: The guide changes a question or follow-up for a certain kind of candidate, or a question is missing its Tests or Good answer line.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 10. Every flagged question was replaced

Checked by a second AI prompt.

- Meets: Each flagged question is gone from the guide and its replacement is in its place.
- Does not meet: A flagged question is still in the guide.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:

### 11. A person who knows the job and the rules reads the guide before the interviews

Checked by you.

- Meets: A person who knows the job read each question from a candidate's side, confirmed the good-answer points, and had your HR or legal team look at the guide.
- Does not meet: The guide is used without a read by someone who knows the job, or without a look from someone who knows the rules where you hire.
- Your mark: [ ] Meets [ ] Does not meet
- What you saw:
