The terms of an AI workflow, one page each. Every page says what the term means in a sentence or two, draws it and shows it in a real template.
One prompt
One prompt does a short job well: rewrite an email, explain a term.
The Terms
- 1AI WorkflowAn AI workflow is a short chain of small steps that takes your material to a finished result, with a check on the steps that matter and a person looking where judgment is needed. Because each step is small, each one can be checked and fixed on its own.
- 2Prompt Chain Versus One PromptA prompt chain is a set of prompts you run in order, passing each answer into the next one. One prompt asks for the whole job at once, which suits a short job and hides which part went wrong in a long one.
- 3The Six ShapesA workflow’s shape is how its steps fit together. Logic Lab templates use six: step by step, several angles, split and merge, draft check and revise, best of several, and a mix of these.
- 4StepA step is one small job for the AI, with one clear prompt and one result handed to the next step. A workflow is a chain of steps.
- 5CheckA check is a plain question asked about a step’s result, such as whether every number is in the document. A failed check sends the step through again, stops the workflow or flags the problem.
- 6Scoring GuideA scoring guide lists what good looks like as rows, one for each check, with what meets the row and what does not. It lets a result be marked met or not met, and lets the mark be explained.
- 7Hand-OffA hand-off is what one step passes to the next, always in the same shape, such as a table with the same columns. A fixed shape lets the next step use the result without guessing, and lets a check read it.
- 8LoopA loop sends a step through again when its check fails, with the problem pointed out. It always has a limit on rounds, and at the limit it stops and flags the problem for a person.
- 9Test SetA test set is a few real jobs you run the workflow on every time you change it: a typical one, an easy one and a tricky one. Running the same set each time shows whether a change helped or broke something.
- 10Run RecordA run record is the written note of one test run: the date, the tool and its version, the sample used, what each check found and how each row was marked. Kept run after run, the records show whether the workflow got better or worse.
- 11A Person in the LoopA person in the loop is a point where the workflow stops and asks you to look, because only a person can judge it, such as whether a summary is fair. Automatic checks run first, so you read only work that has already passed them.
- 12Adapting a TemplateAdapting a template is changing it to fit your own material, reader or tools while its steps and checks keep working. Change the input first, then the reader, then add the check your work needs.
