Prompt optimizer
Paste a prompt and see what it leaves out, a cleaner version of it, and how it measures up. Then take a three-step chain to your own AI to polish it further.
Your Prompt
Paste the prompt you use now, or the task you want broken down.

Run It in Your Own AI
The same job done by an AI instead of by rules: three prompts to paste into your own AI, one after the other. Each step works on the answer from the one before. Switch off a step you do not need.
- 1. Rewrite and clarify. Cut the filler and say the core request directly, with the context it needs.
- 2. Restructure. Put the main goal first and lay the rest out in clear sections.
- 3. Token optimize. Cut the prompt to as few words as it can be, so it costs less to send.
# Refine a prompt: prompt chain Run a prompt through up to three steps in your own AI: rewrite it plainly, restructure it into sections, then cut it to fewer tokens. **Made for:** Anyone who writes prompts for an AI assistant. ## Before you start Have these ready: - **Your prompt** (required): Paste the prompt you want to improve, as you wrote it. **How to use this chain** 1. Open a new chat in any AI assistant. 2. Copy the Step 1 prompt, replace every [PASTE HERE: ...] slot with your material, and send it. 3. Keep each answer: later steps ask you to paste it in. Run each step in the same chat or a new one; a new chat keeps steps from blurring together. 4. After a step that has a check, run the check before you move on. ## Step 1: Rewrite and clarify Cut the filler and say the core request directly, with the context it needs. Copy this prompt: ````text You are an expert prompt rewriter. Your task is to turn the prompt below into a concise, clear instruction that someone can act on at once. - Remove filler words, greetings, small talk and any politeness that adds nothing. - Keep the core request: the essential task, question or goal. - Put the context, setup and limits the task needs straight into the rewritten prompt. Do not add information that the original does not state or imply. - Make it as short as it can be while it stays clear and actionable. - Keep the original intent and the result it asks for. The prompt to rewrite: [PASTE HERE: Your prompt] Return only the rewritten prompt, with no comment before or after it. ```` **You get back:** The rewritten prompt. ## Step 2: Restructure Put the main goal first and lay the rest out in clear sections. Copy this prompt: ````text You are a prompt engineer. Your task is to restructure the prompt below so that an AI reads it accurately. - Put the main objective, the core request, at the very top as the overall goal. - Use Markdown to make the structure clear: headings for the main parts, bullet points for separate items or requirements, and code formatting for short literal values or longer literal text. - Choose a clear, logical structure over a decorative one. - Do not change what the prompt asks for. The prompt to restructure: [PASTE HERE: the answer from Step 1 (Rewrite and clarify)] Return only the restructured prompt. ```` **You get back:** The restructured prompt, in Markdown. ## Step 3: Token optimize Cut the prompt to as few words as it can be, so it costs less to send. Copy this prompt: ````text You are an expert at writing short, exact prompts. Your task is to shorten the prompt below to the fewest tokens that keep it working the same way. A token is a small piece of a word, and AI tools count and price their work in tokens. - Be concise. - Keep the way an AI behaves when it reads the prompt, and keep the shape of the answer it asks for. - Use plain shorthand that both people and AI models read easily. - Remove grammar and repetition that the meaning does not need. - Do not change the intent in any way. The prompt to shorten: [PASTE HERE: the answer from Step 2 (Restructure)] Return only the shortened prompt. ```` **You get back:** The shortened prompt. ## Final checks Run these on the finished result. **Final check 1: Still asks for the same thing** Ask yourself: Does the finished prompt ask for the same thing as your original prompt, with nothing important lost or added? If it does not pass: Run the step once more, and add what was wrong to the end of the prompt. If it still does not pass, fix it by hand and make a note of it. ## What you end up with - A clearer prompt you can paste into any AI tool ## Changing this chain - Switch off any step you do not need. Each step takes the answer from the one before it, so the chain still runs. - Change the wording of a step in the Editor to match how you like prompts written. - Run each step in a fresh chat if the answers start to blur together. --- From Logic Lab (logiclabhq.com). The Seven Marks of a Good Prompt
- Clear and specific
- It says plainly what to do, with no vague words.
- Gives the context it needs
- It says who the answer is for, what it is for, or gives the material to work on.
- Concise
- It has no greetings, polite padding, filler openers or stacked hedges.
- Gives the AI a role
- It says who the AI should be.
- Says the output format
- It says what shape the answer should take.
- Shows an example
- It shows an example of what a good answer looks like.
- Sets limits
- It says what not to do, or sets a limit on length or sources.
The checks are rules, not an AI. They look for words and shapes in your prompt, so they can miss a good prompt written in an unusual way. Use them as a second pair of eyes, and trust your own read of the prompt.
Using the tool
- Paste a prompt, or a task you want broken into steps, and press the button under it.
- Answer the questions you can. Each answer is added to the prompt.
