Check every requirement is covered

Go through a list of requirements one at a time, find where your document answers each one, and get a short list of the gaps to close before you submit, without inventing any missing detail.

Sample results: runs and scores on this page are illustrations while testing is set up. How we test

  • Who it is for: Anyone who answers a request with a written response, such as a quote, a proposal or an application, and has the requirements in hand.

Sample

One plain prompt

Check whether my quote meets all of the requirements and tell me what is missing. (The same requirements and quote are pasted below.)

Your quote meets most of the requirements.

  1. Lead person and phone number: met. Priya Nair, 555-0142.
  2. Total price with materials shown separately: met. The total of 6,400 dollars is given, and the materials (soil, lumber and water line fittings) are listed.
  3. Days and start date: met. 10 working days, starting July 6.
  4. Plan for removing waste: not mentioned. You should add a short plan.
  5. Two earlier jobs with a contact: met. The Eastside school garden and a rooftop garden are listed.
  6. Guarantee: met. The quote says that all work is guaranteed.

The only gap is the waste plan.

Problem:It counts a materials list as a separate cost, a second job with no contact and a guarantee with no length as met, and reports only one gap.

With this template

The same input, run through the steps.

Result: 6 requirements checked: 2 covered, 3 partly covered, 1 not covered.

#Requirement (quote)What is missingWhere to add it
2"give a total price in dollars, with the cost of materials shown separately"The total is given, but the cost of materials is not shown separately from it.In the Price part
4"include a plan for removing waste"The quote says nothing about removing waste.A new part after Timing
5"list two earlier jobs, with a contact for each"Two jobs are listed, but only the school garden has a contact. In the Past work part
6"say how long the work is guaranteed"The quote says the work is guaranteed but not for how long.In the last sentence

Covered

  • "name the person who will lead the work and give their phone number"
  • "say how many days the work will take and the earliest start date"
  • Check:Every requirement is quoted word for word: Six requirements quoted word for word from the requirements, each with what the document must show.
  • Check:Every passage is quoted word for word from the document: Six rows: five passages quoted word for word from the document, and one None found (the waste plan).
  • Check:Each requirement is marked covered, partly covered or not covered: Six judgments, each one of the three allowed words: 2 covered, 3 partly covered, 1 not covered.
  • Check:Every gap row is filled in: Four rows under Gaps to close, each with all three cells filled.
  • Check:Every requirement in the gap list is in the requirements word for word: All four quoted requirements are in the requirements word for word.
  • Check:The counts add up to the judgments: The Result line says 6 requirements, 2 covered, 3 partly covered and 1 not covered; the table has four rows, one for each requirement that is not fully covered.
  • Check:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave: No row states or suggests a figure, name or date; each says only what is missing and where it belongs.
  • For your read:You decide which gaps matter: Does the missing separate cost for materials matter to the person who set the requirements?

Runs and scores

Sample

Claude, Sonnet model

October 4, 2026, easy sample

  • Check:Every requirement is quoted word for word

Three requirements quoted word for word, each with what the document must show.

  • Check:Every passage is quoted word for word from the document

Three passages, each quoted word for word from the document.

  • Check:Each requirement is marked covered, partly covered or not covered

    Three judgments, all covered.

  • Check:Every gap row is filled in

One row under Gaps to close, with None found in every cell, because every requirement is covered.

  • Check:Every requirement in the gap list is in the requirements word for word

The gap list quotes no requirement (its row says None found), so every quote in it is in the requirements.

  • Check:The counts add up to the judgments

The Result line says 3 requirements checked, all 3 covered; the gap list has no row for a requirement.

  • Check:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave

The gap list names no figure, name, date or promise.

  • For your read:You decide which gaps matter

Is the template the abstract promises one you can really hand out?

Fixed: Nothing needed fixing: every check passed on the first pass.

ChatGPT, GPT model

October 5, 2026, tricky sample

  • Check:Every requirement is quoted word for word

Five requirements quoted word for word, each with what the document must show.

  • First pass failed:Every passage is quoted word for word from the document

The first version gave the passage for the references requirement as "trained staff at Riverside Clinic and Northgate Library", which leaves out the contacts and is not in the document word for word.

  • Check:Each requirement is marked covered, partly covered or not covered

Five judgments, each one of the three allowed words: 1 covered, 3 partly covered, 1 not covered.

  • Check:Every gap row is filled in

Four rows under Gaps to close, each with all three cells filled.

  • Check:Every requirement in the gap list is in the requirements word for word

All four quoted requirements are in the requirements word for word.

  • Check:The counts add up to the judgments

The Result line says 5 requirements checked, 1 covered, 3 partly covered and 1 not covered; the gap list has four rows.

  • Failed:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave

The row for the learning check suggests a short quiz at the end of each session, a method nobody gave.

  • For your read:You decide which gaps matter

The start date is November 2, so is that within 60 days of the day you will submit?

Fixed: The find step ran again once with the rule to quote word for word, and it came back quoting the whole sentence about Riverside Clinic and Northgate Library, which cleared the first failure. The report step ran again once and the row for the learning check still suggested a quiz, so the check failed again and the run stopped there and flagged it for you.

Met 7 of 8

  • Not met:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave: The row for the learning check still suggests a quiz, which nobody gave.

n8n, import format 2.20

October 6, 2026, typical sample

  • Check:Every requirement is quoted word for word

Six requirements quoted word for word, each with what the document must show.

  • Check:Every passage is quoted word for word from the document

Six rows: five passages quoted word for word from the document, and one None found.

  • First pass failed:Each requirement is marked covered, partly covered or not covered

Row 3 said "met", and the Coverage column must say covered, partly covered or not covered.

  • Check:Every gap row is filled in

Four rows under Gaps to close, each with all three cells filled.

  • Check:Every requirement in the gap list is in the requirements word for word

All four quoted requirements are in the requirements word for word.

  • Check:The counts add up to the judgments

The Result line says 6 requirements checked, 2 covered, 3 partly covered and 1 not covered; the gap list has four rows.

  • Check:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave

No row states or suggests a figure, name or date; each says only what is missing and where it belongs.

  • For your read:You decide which gaps matter

Will you ask the person who set the requirements whether materials must be priced apart from the total?

Fixed: The judge step ran again once with the three allowed words restated, and every row then used one of them.

The steps, and the check on each

  1. Step 1: List each requirement and what it asks for

Split the requirements into separate items, quoted word for word, and say what the document must show for each.

Hands back: A numbered table of the requirements, each quoted and with what the document must show.

Check:Every requirement is quoted word for word

A plain rule. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  2. Step 2: Find where each one is answered

For each requirement, quote the words in your document that answer it, or say that none do.

Hands back: A table that puts a quoted passage from the document beside each requirement, or None found.

Check:Every passage is quoted word for word from the document

A plain rule. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  3. Step 3: Judge each requirement

Compare what each requirement asks for with the passage found, and say what is missing.

Hands back: A table that marks each requirement covered, partly covered or not covered and names what is missing.

Check:Each requirement is marked covered, partly covered or not covered

A plain rule. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  4. Step 4: Write the gap report

Turn the judgments into a count, a list of gaps with where each should be added, and a list of what is covered.

Hands back: A report with a count line, a table of gaps and a list of the requirements that are covered.

Check:Every gap row is filled in

A plain rule. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

After the last step

  • Check:Every requirement in the gap list is in the requirements word for word

A plain rule. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  • Check:The counts add up to the judgments

A second look by the AI. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  • Check:No gap is filled with a detail nobody gave

A second look by the AI. If it fails, run the step again (the n8n file does this for you).

  • Check:You decide which gaps matter

You check this one. If it fails, it is flagged for you.

What you need first

  • The requirements(needed)

Paste the requirements exactly as they were given to you, in the order they appear.

  • Your document(needed)

Paste the full text of the document that has to meet the requirements, as it stands now.

Ways to adapt it

  • This template checks your document against the list as written. It cannot tell whether a requirement is reasonable, and it does not know requirements that were given to you out loud.
  • If the requirements come with weights or must-have marks, paste them into the requirements text and add a column for them in the list step.
  • If a requirement depends on something outside the texts, such as a date or a page limit, the template marks it partly covered and says what is needed, so check that one yourself.
  • To change the coverage words, change them in the judge step's rules and in its check, both.
  • For a long list of requirements, run the template on one section of the list at a time.

Change any step or check in the Editor, then download it again.

Try it with a sampleSample

Six requirements and a short quote; two are fully met, three are met only in part (a separate materials cost, a contact for each job, the length of the guarantee) and one is not answered at all.

The requirements
The quote must name the person who will lead the work and give their phone number. It must give a total price in dollars, with the cost of materials shown separately. It must say how many days the work will take and the earliest start date. It must include a plan for removing waste. It must list two earlier jobs, with a contact for each. It must say how long the work is guaranteed.
Your document
Quote for the Maple Street community garden. Our crew of four, led by Priya Nair (phone 555-0142), will build the raised beds, lay the paths and connect the water line. Price: the total is 6,400 dollars, which includes soil, lumber and the water line fittings. Timing: the work will take 10 working days, and the earliest we can start is July 6. Past work: we built the Eastside school garden last year (contact: Dana Ruiz, 555-0177) and a rooftop garden for a downtown cafe. All our work is guaranteed.
